This strain was first documented by a group of Boy Scouts camping close to the Colombia River in Oregon in 1979. Years later, the legendary mycologist Paul Stamets formally named the mushroom “Psilocybe azurescens” after Stamets’  Son Azureus.

If hiking in BC, Keep an eye out for Azurescens, as they grow all along the forests of the Pacific North West. Their cap is caramel in color and shaped like a nipple with a serrated type edge and a thick stem. If you see a fresh Azzie you’ll immediately know why they are named the flying saucer mushroom.
